Senior Society

Many TASS members took a cherry blossom walk around the Tidal Basin on March 28, 2011

The Taiwanese American Senior Society of the Washington DC Metropolitan Area (TASS) was established in early 2007.   I joined it in August.  I have become more and more involved in it and it has become one of the most important circles of my retirement life.

My first talk at TASS was in 2008 on the meanings of life and death from the perspectives of religion and philosophy.  Afterwards, I wrote an article in Chinese “從宗教與哲學談生死的意義.”  I am in the process of writing an equivalent longer artice in English, which may become the anchor article for this website.  For the Chinese article, please click:

Later on, I was invited to give three talks on Taoism, Buddhism, and Confucianism at TASS.  The three PowerPoint Presentations used in these talks have been made available in this website, in the "Taoism" webpage, "Buddhism" webpage, and "Confucianism" webpage, respectively.

In the meantime, I have become an active member of the Photography Club, led by Stephen Hung.  I have learned to use a camera to explore the natural and human worlds.  This website reflects many of my photography activities.

Since quite a few people became interested in my talks about life, death, Taoism, Buddhism, and Confucianism, some of us decided to organize a discussion group, called the Life Enrichment Club (暢樂人生社), on June 22, 2009.  I served as its coordinator to the end of 2014.  Through the club activities, I expanded my interests, deepened my religious and philosophical thinking, and found my learning in my earlier life more relevant.

The subjects covered in the Life Enrichment Club discussions include philosophies of life, conception of time, chaos theory, humor and wisdom, genetics, fate and destiny, DNA and human migrations, genetic diversities in Taiwan, Mahayana Buddhism, photography, painting, establishment of human values, evolution, human brain, astronomy, geology, etc.  I have written five articles summarizing the activities of the Life Enrichment Club in 2009-2010, 2010-2011, 2011-2012, 2012-2013, and 2013-2014:
